The Midland Building

Renewable program provides 26% tax credit

THE CHALLENGE

Solar in the City

The Midland Building hired National Energy Control to perform a Smart Building assessment to benchmark energy usage. The audit identified areas of inefficiency that could be addressed by new technology including updated lighting, solar, and EV Fast Chargers, and exterior building façade lighting.

THE SOLUTION

22% Energy Reduction

National Energy Control installed over 800 new LED fixtures and controls which improved light levels and lowered energy costs. On the rooftop, a 100 KW Solar Photovoltaic array was installed along with two “juice box” electric vehicle charging stations in the rear parking lot.

  1. 229 metric tons of CO2 removed.
  2. 64 acres of Trees planted.
  3. 57 cars removed from the road.
  4. 28,893 gallons of Gas saved.

The solar array , designed and bui lt by National Energy Control, constitutes approximately 12 ,000 square feet of solar panels mounted on the bu ilding rooftop . T he system will produce over 130,000 annual kilowatt hours of electricity. During its estimated lifetime of 30 years, the array will produce over 3.5 million kilowatt hours. T he LED lighting upgrade of over 750 fixtures reduce s a further 2 1 6,000 annual kilowatt hours. Combined, building energy us age was reduced by 22%.
