
The Challenge
Management was concerned with rising energy consumption. In addition, failing motors and drives were leading to excessive motor maintenance and repair costs.
Existing 400 watt HID lighting was insufficient, especially in key areas where veneer was inspected for quality and where MB clients visit for sales demonstrations.
The Solution
NEC personnel performed advanced diagnostic testing on the electrical system and found excessive levels of power imbalance including voltage transients, dips, and swells.
These types of power quality issues were the cause of energy waste within MB’s electrical system and the likely cause of the motor repair issues and degrading ballasts and lamps. NEC designed a power quality system using high performance, state of the art surge protection devices (SPDs) on all switch gear and sub panels directly feeding equipment.
For lighting, NEC replaced existing metal halide with all aluminum, linear fluorescent fixtures increasing light levels by 40% overall. NEC then custom designed task area lighting for inspection and sales which replicated “natural outdoor” light.
